NATAS signs MOU with Japan
07/06/2011

Fighting against the odds, Japan is making a gradual but steady recovery from the devastation caused by the March earthquakes and tsunamis. To further this recovery process along, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been signed between four parties from Singapore and Japan.

On 1st June 2011, the National Association of Travel Agents Singapore President Mr William Tan and CEO Mr Robert Khoo, and Singapore Hotel Association Executive Director Ms Margaret Heng supported a visit to Tokyo, Japan. Leading the visit was Singapore Tourism Board’s CEO Ms Aw Kah Peng. In Japan, they were met by Japan National Tourism Organization President Mr Tadatoshi Mamiya and Japan Association of Travel Agents Chairman Mr Akira Kanai.

The signing of the MOU signifies Singapore’s support for Japan in the aftermath of the March disaster, and this was made possible through STB, which also hosted the dinner during the signing ceremony. The MOU is aimed at strengthening tourism cooperation and bilateral exchanges; this will be done through raising mutual awareness of developing situations in each country, deepening collaborations and facilitating participation in the areas of travel fairs and trade shows. In addition, both countries will support each other’s advertising and promotional activities, regular media and trade familiarization trips.

Singapore has been strongly aiding Japan since the disaster struck, and this latest step in its efforts to help with Japan’s recovery process marks a milestone in Japan-Singapore bilateral relations.
