Singapore’s Tour & Travel Industry: Manpower Issues and Insights

  INDUSTRY CHARACTERISTICS

The industry is highly competitive and is segmented into two main business areas – leisure and corporate travel. The leisure segment focuses on providing guided tours and free and easy packages for leisure travellers. The corporate travel segment consists of corporate tour agencies catering exclusively to companies e.g. organising overseas meetings and incentive tours. These agencies also take on travel management roles, such as travel consultancy, traveller tracking and generating management reports to monitor companies’ travel budgets. The opening of the two Integrated Resorts (IRs) in 2010 will
help Singapore attract more tourists. STB has forecasted 11.5 to 12.5 million visitor arrivals and S$17.5 to S$18.5 billion in tourism receipts for 2010.
