MFA Capacity Building Course with Northeast India States
24/07/2013

From 22-26 July 2013, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) conducted a capacity building course on “Tourism Management and Destination Marketing” to share Singapore’s experiences in tourism development and destination marketing and give a broad overview of how tourism complements Singapore’s strategies for economic development. Held at PARKRORAL on Kitchener, the event was attended by local travel agents and representatives from eight states of Northeast India – Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura.

As part of the programme, a session was conducted on 24 July 2013, during which more than 20 local travel agents listened attentively as the Northeast Indian representatives shared the various travel experiences their individual states had to offer such as eco-tourism, adventure tourism and World Heritage sites. Besides giving travel agents an insight into the various Northeast Indian states, the session also served as a platform for participants to network with one another.

Mr Jimmy Ooi, Honorary Treasurer of NATAS, who was the invited Guest-of-Honour for the event, urged representatives from both countries to make full use of the session to establish working partnerships. Many of the participants took his words to heart, mingling and chatting with each other as local travel agents eagerly spoke to the various state representatives to find out more.

In all, the event was a huge success and Mr Ooi best summed up the spirit of the session when he commented: “A strong bilateral relationship between Singapore and Northeast India promises many great things for both countries.”
