Tourism in Uzbekistan and Uzbekistan Airways Roadshow 2013

The inaugural Tourism in Uzbekistan and Uzbekistan Airways Roadshow was held on 28 February 2013 at Swissôtel the Stamford. Aimed at promoting and developing tourism between Singapore and Uzbekistan, the grand event gave Singaporean and Uzbekistan tourism operators and professionals the opportunity to network and meet with one another as well as exchange new leads and develop new business partnerships.

With four cultural heritage sites on UNESCO’s World Heritage List, there is much for tourists to see and experience in Uzbekistan. A country that is rich in history and culture, it is filled with great treasures that tell the tales of the Central Asian People and the famed Silk Road.  As His Excellency Alisher Kurmanov, Ambassador of the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Singapore, put eloquently: “Uzbekistan does not only have a bright future, but a glorious past laden with exciting stories, where beautiful architecture and ancient artifacts abound and deeply ingrained traditions are still honoured.”
Ms Patricia Auyeong, Group Acting CEO of NATAS, who was invited to the roadshow as the Guest-of-Honour, spoke on behalf of NATAS when she expressed her hope that “this will be but one of many collaborations between both our countries”. NATAS has previously collaborated with the Embassy of the Republic of Uzbekistan to organise a Business Mission for its members to visit Uzbekistan in May 2009. During the trip, members had the opportunity to meet with various Uzbekistan travel agencies and operators, enabling them to grow their businesses through partnership opportunities.
Ms Auyeong ended her address with a statement of her belief – that both countries can stand to benefit greatly from the event.  His Excellency Alisher Kurmanov expressed similar sentiments, stating that “the Roadshow will help the audience to realise the many untapped opportunities of both countries and to establish a long-term and fruitful partnership.”
To signify the deepening partnership and intensifying efforts to develop tourism between the two countries, Mr Erkin Ubaydullaev, Chief of Commercial Department of Uzbekistan Airways, pledged that a direct flight route between Singapore and Uzbekistan would be developed and implemented in 2013. This was met with the audience’s thunderous applause.
