28 August 2012 – Singaporeans keenly demonstrated their appetite for travel at the recently concluded travel fair, NATAS Holidays 2012. The show, which broke sales volume records yet again, has shown that the local travel industry is able to thrive even amidst economic uncertainty.

The sold-out show at 1147 booths welcomed a total of 65,822 visitors over the 3 days and achieved a record-breaking S$108 million in collective sales – an 8% increase from the previous S$100 million record set at Holidays 2011.

Mr. Robert Khoo, Group CEO of NATAS & TMIS, said, “The trend we’re seeing at our biannual fairs implies that Singaporeans are coming to the NATAS shows to look for mid and long haul packages. In addition, we’re seeing a fantastically strong response from customers towards various exhibitors offering a range of free gifts for purchasing packages at the show. I am very happy with our strong showing for NATAS Holidays 2012, and I am confident the industry as a whole will continue to thrive.”

The top five destinations were Europe, China, Korea, Taiwan and Japan respectively.

Mr. Khoo touched on the strong demand for Europe packages: “Singaporeans are great opportunists, and with the favorable Euro exchange rate right now, our customers will be very keen to take advantage of this and travel to Europe, which has typically been a very expensive destination.”

The next NATAS travel fair, Travel 2013 will be held in February next year.
