TRAVEL 2012 A Sign of the Tourism Sector’s Resilience
27/02/2012

The recently concluded travel fair, NATAS TRAVEL 2012, has shown that despite worries of an economic slowdown, the resilience of the tourism sector is not to be underestimated.

The sold-out show at 1056 booths welcomed a total of 62,871 visitors over the 3 days and achieved an astounding S$100 million in collective sales.

Mr. Robert Khoo, CEO of NATAS said, “The good performance of this fair is an indication that the economic slowdown has not impeded Singaporeans’ thirst for travel. Despite a slight 4% drop in visitor numbers to the fair, as compared to the same show last year, we have done well and our exhibitors are happy. I am hopeful that this strong demand will continue throughout the rest of the year.”

The top five destinations were Europe, China, Japan, Taiwan and Korea respectively.

Mr. Khoo gave several reasons for the good demand: “The strong Singapore dollar as well as intense competition among airlines and other suppliers have resulted in local travel agents being able to price their travel packages more attractively”.

The next NATAS travel fair, HOLIDAYS 2012 will be held in August this year.
